Discerning Our Past

The Virgo Moon casting a discerning eye upon our celestial landscape is helping us on earth to analyze, dissect, and re-evaluate our past so we feel more secure about who we are. For those of us with natal planets in Virgo we are well aware, from an early age, of the glaring imperfections of our life and decide then to grow into our adulthood tirelessly working toward achieving perfection. When under the influence of Virgo we can be hyper critical and often our most heartfelt intentions to make a situation better are misunderstood, and to our dismay, received as unwarranted criticism.
The Virgo archetype within our unconscious is of the eternal feminine embodied in the virgin goddesses; unmarried women belonging to no one but themselves and none of whom were expected to be a young, chaste maiden. In fact, Virgo demands our maturity, our growing in wisdom, in order to understand that perfection does not exist in the physical world of our making but resides deeply in our knowing, our inner affirming, that we are perfect as we are. Buddhism guides us in a similar understanding of ourself through a disciplined practice of observing our mind which leads directly to showing us our perception of who we are. Astrology teaches that how we perceive who we are is the reflection of our past and that growing in self awareness requires understanding our past. In astrology the Moon is the container of our past.
As the Moon moves through Virgo there is a mutual exchange between the Moon, Mercury and Mars. Virgo is one of two signs in the zodiac, Gemini being the other, ruled by the planet Mercury. Today Mercury and the Sun conjoin in the domicile of Mars, in the sign of Aries; our impulse to become who we are. The Moon is in the domicile of Mercury, in the sign of Virgo; our impulse to perfect who we are. Mars is in the domicile of the Moon, in the sign of Cancer, our impulse to protect who we are. Today, the Moon and Mars work together helping us creatively resolve past emotional defenses and with the supporting hand from Mercury put aside our self doubting, reorganize our thinking, and open our mind to new possibilities. Mercury in Aries can makes us mentally impatient and we may overlook an important clue in understanding why we perceive ourself as we do but the Virgo Moon is at our side helping to steady our impatient mind so we can be discerning of our past. The last aspect the Moon makes before leaving the sign of Virgo is a benevolent trine to Jupiter in Capricorn reminding us that our good fortune is the result of our disciplined effort.
