Artemis Ephesians
ARTEMIS EPHESIAN , ca 150 - 200 AD, Museum Collection: Ephesus Museum, Selcuk, Turkey
This is a statue of the Anatolian Mother Goddess Artemis depicted with rows of breasts, flanked by a pair of wild beasts, and the zodiac encircles her throat. The Anatolian Artemis eventually metamorphosed into the Greek Goddess Artemis and the Roman Goddess Diana, both maiden Goddesses responsible for wild animals and the hunt. Both of these goddesses became synonymous with the delicate crescent phase of the new Moon preceding the full ripening of the Moon each month.
