The Sun God
Christ-Helios at the Center of the Zodiac, 11th century France, Bibliothéque Nationale, Paris.
The zodiacal wheel suggests the cyclical concept of time, the four seasons and twelve months of the year, now placed under the rule of Christ and divine Providence.
At the center of the zodiac, the ancient Greek god Helios, source of light and life, has been transformed into Christ. This identification was ratified by the Christian calendar: Sunday, from the ancient Roman Dies solis, the day of the Sun, and the Nativity, birth of the Sol Invictus.
