Mars
This image from the sixteenth century depicts the planet Mars as the Roman god of war and astrological ruler of Aries and Scorpio; represented by a ram and scorpion enclosed within two circles. The Golden rays of the Sun, exalted in Aries, shines brightly from the god’s groin. The month of March, named after Mars, was considered an auspicious time to begin or renew a battle of war.
The title and artist are unknown to me.
