Pallas and the Centaur
Allegorical painting by Sandro Botticelli, 1482. In the collection of Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence
Pallas Athena born from the intellect of her father, Jupiter, is the Greek goddess of wisdom, but her roots in divinity go deeper than ancient Greece, farther back even than The Lady of the Snakes in the Minoan civilization in Crete, to the neolithic culture of southeastern Europe, 6,000 – 3,500 BC, embodied in the Mistress of Waters. While Jupiter, is the undisputed ruler of Sagittarius many believe that he shares co-ruler ship with his half brother, gifted homeopathic healer and learned teacher of nature’s wisdom, the Centaur Chiron. In contemporary astrology the gift offered Sagittarius is our ability to integrate our physical instincts, our intellectual wisdom, and our spiritual ideals into a unified consciousness.
