The Pure Pleasure of Being

When we turn our attention to the annual returning of the seasons, the monthly phases of the Moon, and the daily rising of the Sun, it seems as if all of Life is continuously unfolding in cycles reflecting the imprint of an infinite intelligence in which the unfolding of human experience seems intricately linked. Astrology is the earliest recorded system of intellectual inquiry giving significance to cycles of nature that mirror similar cycles in the human experiencing of life; birthing, flowering, decaying, and dying. This is one reason why at the New Moon, when the Sun and Moon embrace in birth of a new lunar month, astrologer’s portend a golden opportunity to set an intention for a new birth in self- awareness.

This month the New Moon is in Taurus and we on Earth are given the opportunity to build something of indestructible security that can stand the shifting winds and eroding tides of time. Taurus is that aspect in each of us seeking security in those things that belong to us and to no one else. The New Moon in Taurus offers a month for reflecting on the earthy theme of endurance, and what better day than Earth Day to evaluate our emotional attachment to superficial securities which have little relationship to our enduring self.

Taurus is the seasonal cycle of fertility when the Earth’s womb impregnated by the returning solar vitality of the Sun each spring ripens with the sweet perfume of new vegetation promising the juicy sweetness of summer’s fruitfulness. Something within each of us is also ripening into fruitfulness if we are willing to decipher the cosmic signs permeating the atmosphere and direct our awareness to the sweetness of our authentic self. We can set an intention this month to become more of who we are, more of who we were born to be, by trusting in our inner wealth, committing to the arduous work of becoming our deeper self, and partaking in the pure pleasure of our being.
