“Union of Irreconcilables”

The Sun has traveled in solitude since the solar eclipse but yesterday the face of the Aquarius Sun was seeking social contact and hesitantly joined Neptune’s aqueous company; their annual meeting never a comfortable commingling. In the Alchemical process of transformation fire and water are understood to be a “union of irreconcilables”; fire the radiant light of our conscious mind and water the unfathomable depths of our unconscious mind. Knowing that the Sun’s radiant light is dampened by Neptune’s distaste for anything formed and individually differentiated I seriously ponder what significance is gained from their meeting? The wisdom of alchemy imagined the union of fire and water having four hands reaching toward one another in genuine offering of their differences. The vibrant enthusiasm of fire often fizzles prematurely and the immutable patience of water can be overwhelming clinging; in union the Sun acquires patience and Neptune confidence. Translated into living experiences our robust, inspired, often impetuous vitality is given endurance through difficult times, and our undefined, dreamy, imaginative yearnings are able to float rather than drown in Neptune’s turbulent waters.
Meeting in Aquarius adds sparkle to the union and I wouldn’t be surprised if yesterday you were more extroverted than usual reaching out to friends or hitting the pavement and mingling with strangers. Either way, yesterday was definitely not a day to be indoors unless the weather was prohibiting or you fired your imagination with creative work. The poetic yearnings of Neptune are extremely well served in union with the creative rays of the Sun and a strong Sun and Neptune in the natal chart is one signature of an artist. Not surprising I spent yesterday on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean under the bountiful light of the Sun visually feasting on the creatively inspired imagination of others. I spent my entire day at the Getty Center in Los Angles among the last to leave as the diminishing light of the Sun majestically surrendered into the unfathomable depths of Neptune’s longing.
At the end of the day, it seems possible that the union of fire and water nurture the human capacity to creatively imagine something which has never been before, and in the sign of Aquarius the creative imagining has something to do with a different social conscience perhaps a new awareness in social responsibilities or an awakened since of possibilities. It seems that members of the Democratic party have been given an extra challenge at this time in that the Democratic presidential candidates, Senator Obama and Senator Clinton, have the natal Sun in the fire sign Leo and the water sign Scorpio; offering a fitting example of a” union of irreconcilables” being handed an opportunity for creatively imagining their differences. It will be interesting to see what they do with this opportunity?
