Veus with WingsToday the Goddess of love embraces the God of communication telling me that we on earth will be preoccupied with thoughts of love. For those of you with a vibrant Venus in your natal chart this day may seem like any other but keep in mind that you too can benefit from a closer scrutiny of how well you communicate your love to others and not just the significant others in your life but to ALL others. The planets Venus and Mercury are moving through the sign of Aquarius so we are particularly sensitive to the individual members of our society; Venus is helping us appreciate the valuable contribution of each member and Mercury is teaching the lesson of a discerning eye reminding us that “all that glitters is not gold.” It can be a humbling experience to wash the garments dressing social privilege and realize that everyone has something of value to contribute to life even those individuals who do not share our values or our world view. The Aquarian battle cry is “equality for all” but there cannot be equality for anyone until each individual assumes personal responsibility for the choices he/she is making in his /her life.

During the coming weeks, Venus and Mercury are dancing cheek to cheek entwining our appreciation for one another with our discriminating common sense so we are not swept away by collective sentiment or popular opinion. In an uncharacteristic move, Mercury places messenger wings upon the shoulders of Venus allowing her to fly more quickly than he into the embracing arms of Neptune, our God of eternal love, so she can whisper in Neptune’s ear Mercury’s discerning words of love. In astrology Venus is our capacity to love because we are loved and Neptune is our capacity to love because it is the nature of love to love. With both planets in Aquarius our capacity for love is definitely kept at an arms length away suggesting to me that it is a good time to step outside the social circle to avoid drowning in a sea of undifferentiated sentiment. It is a great time to observe ourselves and learn something about how we discern value for one person and not another. Don’t be surprised if during the next few weeks you experience something in your life which challenges you to think with an independent and loving mind that includes rather than excludes people you think are different that you.
