Our Creative Potential

Mars entering Leo directs our attention to asserting our originality spiced with drama, dash and daring. Mars, the archetypal principle of energetic force, is that aspect in each of us determined to get what we want in life, and when Mars is in Leo what we want is to be appreciated, admired, even adored for the brilliance of our uniqueness. When under the influence of Leo we are at the summit of our creative potential radiating a robust life force as scintillating as the vibrant rays of a summer midday Sun.  At its rip -roaring- best Leo reveals our divine child within, our whirling dervish of ecstatic dance, our very own Teresa of Avila blissfully embracing the heart of the universe.

The time is ripe for each of us to courageously assert our unique individuality daring to trust in our creative self- potential.  Leo is that aspect in human consciousness umbilically attached to the source of a spontaneous creativity allowing each of us, through all that we create in life, to witness ourself being ourself. While this idea may be obtuse for the  more prosaic side of our brain it is well worth considering the full potential of our self -creating and the profound responsibility it infers for individually creating the quality of  life that we are living.  In its highest form Leo is teaching us that our unique self is a one-of-a-kind creation and that everything we do as an individual reflects the source of our being.  In essence whenever we celebrate our love of life we celebrate our love of self and whenever we celebrate our love of violence we celebrate our love of violence in ourself.

The first aspect Mars, god of strife and war, makes is a quincunx with Pluto, god of death and regeneration, suggesting a careful observing in Leo lest we fall into a competitive defense of self -interest unaware of the interdependency of our interests and the interests of others.  Mars quincunx Pluto intensifies our self determination which, if handled with awareness, foretells of an enormous reserve of creative power.  But the vulnerable roots of Leo can reach deep into the fertile soil of doubt, distrust, even dislike of ourself fostering our dependency upon the reassuring glances and approving applause of others. Leo teaches us lessons of self-love and for those of us aware of self-immolating insecurities this transit of Mars can be a celestial gift promising the confidence, trust, and encouragement to scale, on our own, the high of a newly discovered self-appreciation.

Mars entering Leo enters the sign of its retrograde cycle giving us on Earth the next eight months to actively engage our creative potential and hopefully assert our unique self-creating in celebration of life rather than in celebration of violence. Mars stations retrograde December 20 at 20 degrees Leo signaling a challenging time for those of us with  planets in the fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) between 00 – 20 degrees Leo.  I will be writing more of my interpretation of  Mars Rx in Leo in early December, but for now, I encourage all of us to observe how we assert our will and where in our life we feel the vulnerability of self-doubt.
