A Dance With Nature

AriesToday is the Vernal Equinox announcing the beginning of spring that time of year when the Sun is parallel to the earth’s equator and we on earth experience 24 hours of equal day and night before the Sun moves onward and the days lengthen the nights shorten until reaching a crescendo at the Summer Solstice. The Sun, the aspect of our unconscious striving for individuality, has entered the zodiacal sign of Aries and the emphasis this month is on renewal and rebirth. We are in our annual mimetic dance with nature and as new life pushes through the earth reaching upward toward the light of the Sun we too are pushing something new within ourselves reaching upward toward the light of our conscious awareness.

This month we turn our gaze toward who were are not what we have. Aries is the first sign in the zodiac and the astrological symbol of our desire “to be”. When under the influence of Aries we strive “to be” by pushing ourselves out in front of the crowd, brazing new frontiers, conquering the unknown, testing, testing, testing our courage. The Aries aspect in or unconscious is not long on patience nor particularly interested in well considered planning; it is far to spontaneous and in the moment of “becoming” to consider the consequences of acting without forethought.

As the Sun travels through Aries the celestial spotlight is on courage so for those of us who are overly cautious and prohibiting of our spontaneity we may experience our courage taking quick, decisive action in some event in our life; and for those of us who “rush in where others fear to tread” our courage may be experienced in considering the consequences of our actions before we act and not after. Our courage is ultimately found when we face our fears and have the self confidence to act in new and unfamiliar ways breaking our past patterns of being which have prevented us from discovering new territories within ourselves.
