Full Moon Blooming

This Full Moon is blooming bright in the night sky reflecting back to us on earth our emotional need for harmony and peace. The full Moon always brings the promise of our conscious illumination and when the Full Moon is in Libra, as it is today, we are becoming more aware of our relationship with the world and how we assert ourselves when relating with others. Of all the full Moons that we experience throughout the year the Libra full Moon is the one which brings our attention, full and bright, to our emotional need to relate with others and discover who we are reflected in how we respond when relating with them. With this Moon we are striving for emotional balance so if we are overly polite with others we may discover our contrary side and be less willing to compromise ourselves in order to “keep the peace”. Likewise, if we have difficulty being patient or sensitive to the feelings of others or we are always demanding to have our way we may discover a more gentle, kinder self willing to consider another’s point of view. What ever balance we are seeking in our relationship with others we are ultimately seeking within ourselves. This Full Moon is asking us to bring to light an aspect of ourselves never before experienced and because it is the beginning of spring we are bound to feel the Full passion of our desire “to be” pushing us to discover something new about ourselves.
This Libra Full Moon is particularly powerful because it makes a Grand Square with Mars in Cancer and Pluto in Capricorn emphasizing our deepest and most powerful feelings of survival. When we enter the Mars dimension of our unconscious we are aware of our desire to have what we want and when Mars is in the sign Cancer what we want is to feel safe and secure in life. When we enter the Pluto dimension of our unconscious we are aware of our darker, irrational impulses working to destroy and eliminate what we are, and when Pluto is in Capricorn we are keenly aware of the necessity to eliminate our internal voices of authority legislating what we should and should not be and inhibiting us from being who we are.
In the astrology practiced during the Renaissance, Atlas symbolized the human condition, split between free will and a cosmic determinism forcing its own law on everything. In the contemporary practice of astrology it is common to consider the natal chart as a map of the unconscious which we inherited from the celestial globe Atlas carries upon his shoulders but instead of splitting free will and cosmic determinism contemporary astrology interprets them in union each influencing the other in determining how we as individuals experience our reality according to how we perceive and what we expect of life. The gift of this Grand Square is stimulating us to make changes in how we perceive who we are by intensifying our frustration in some area of our daily living until we have no other choice but to change. Because the planet Pluto is involved it may feel as if we are releasing something toxic inside ourselves which may manifest in feeling physically or emotionally ill.
Something which I think needs to be considered when astrologically speaking of a full Moon in Libra is acceptance. When the Moon is full in Libra the Sun has entered Aries the time of year heralding new life and the cosmic process of “becoming” so there is a lot of focus on our striving to become more of who we are. What I am suggesting is that one thing we can strive to become is more accepting of who we are and in that way discover ourselves anew. We do not want to make the mistake of splitting ourselves in two and separating who we are from what we perceive and thereby preventing ourselves from understanding that every experience we have in life, every interaction with another person, is reflecting some aspect of who we are. Perhaps it is worth considering that the promise of change is coming to us from within ourselves rather than at us from the outside.
