“Jupiter, lord of cosmic harmony, touches the world’s globe with an open hand, the tool of his creating power.”
The month of March is ending cradled in the creating hand of Jupiter bestowing beneficent good fortune to us on earth. Today and tomorrow the planets Mercury, Venus, Jupiter and Uranus are electrified moving in and out of aspect with one another, all but Jupiter challenged by the Moon, and with Mercury leading the way I am reminded of the dramatic display of fireworks ceremonially announcing the importance of any number of earthly events. When we enter the Jupiter dimension within ourselves we are seeking to expand our conscious awareness of who we are and we enthusiastically open our hand to touch something greater than ourselves. All month long, the planets Mercury and Venus have traveled side by side gracefully meandering through the cosmos chatting with each passing planet on their way toward sharing in good fortune with Jupiter and in the unexpected with Uranus. The Venus dimension in our unconscious is our capacity for social navigating and negotiating, and the Mercury dimension in our unconscious is our capacity for communicating thoughts and feelings; together, Venus and Mercury guarantee that we experience events in our daily lives that reflect how well we are communicating who we are to the rest of the world.
Venus and Mercury began the month dancing round one another in the sign Aquarius favoring the intellectual reasoning of Mercury, and by mid-month both planets entered Pisces, the sign of Venus’ exalted rule, shinning the cosmic spotlight on the healing waters of Pisces and directing our attention inside ourselves focusing on our self esteem. Mercury and Venus are the two fastest moving planets in our solar system and follow an interior path orbiting the Sun moving between the Sun and earth. In astrology Mercury and Venus, along with the planet Mars, are our most personal planets influencing our immediate perception of ourselves and our experiences in the world. When Mercury and Venus are coupled with Jupiter in Capricorn it is likely that we are measuring our self esteem in accordance with our worldly accomplishments, and that this is a time for us to grow deeper roots of self confidence and self assurance which may require our entering the chthonic world of Pluto’s dominion and face our fears and insecurities before reaching out our hand to touch the globe of our creativity.
When under the influence of Pisces we are striving to believe in who we are which is not easily accomplished without a helping hand from our pragmatic self giving form and structure to the imagining of Pisces. The Jupiter dimension in our unconscious is antithetical to form and structure in fact the Jupiter in each of us is seeking to expand beyond the structures binding and restricting our ability to physically and mentally move with freedom. This year, Jupiter is traveling through Capricorn the sign of manifestation and we have the opportunity to create structures that allow us to move with more freedom in our lives. It is possible this year that our greatest growth may come when we free ourselves from our mental straight jacket binding our mind and restricting us from discovering something new about ourselves which expands our self confidence. Stagnation is the flip side of manifestation but with Jupiter at the helm conjoined Uranus stagnation is unlikely; more likely, both planets will breath new life into how we perceive who we are and aid our vulnerable self confidence to grow the necessary wings to soar.
Astrology is an ancient practice reflecting our human need to understand the meaning of who we are and what we experience in the world. It is not by chance that the astrological symbols which help bring meaning to our living experiences have a living presence within our unconscious, making it possible for Caravaggio to paint the living passions of our internal god’s, Jupiter, Neptune, and Pluto, more than two hundred years before either the plant Neptune or Pluto were discovered. And long before the birth of Caravaggio a very wise astrologer had this to say about the humanity of Jupiter, Venus, and Mercury; “If we find Jupiter with Venus, it is similar to a strong, rich and generous man. If Jupiter is with Mercury, it is similar to a man who shows a lot of care in carrying out his duty successfully.”*
