Infinite Possibilities

Wisdom is knowing in depth the great metaphors of meaning.  G.C. Jung

The Milky wayFalling light shrouds Sagittarius with mystery and wonder pricking our curiosity to reach beyond what is familiar and ordinary in our life. Our Earth, in its annual orbit around the Sun, has entered Sagittarius encouraging our leap of faith to free fall into the arms of the unknown.  Each year at this time the nights are longer than the days freeing our mind  from daylight activities to ponder the complexities and significance of human existence. When we are under the influence of Sagittarius we are more visionary than romantic, our body, mind, and spirit scratching an inner itch to grow and expand our understanding of ourself and our place in the Universe.

And what is “our place in the universe”? When we are under the influence of Sagittarius we are aware that there is  something more to our experience of life than mere physical existence.  We feel the rapture of the cosmos surround us and sense more keenly than at other times the miraculous comfort of belonging to something greater than ourself.  Sagittarius, the archer of the zodiac, half man and half beast, wild at heart and restless in spirit, is that aspect in each of us shooting sliver tipped arrows at the stars. When we are under the influence of Sagittarius we have a deepened appreciation for the vastness of the universe and our individual place within. This is not as far fetched as it may seem when considering that the center of  our solar system, The Milky Way Galaxy,  is at 26 degrees Sagittarius;  nor, that 26 degrees Sagittarius is the Galatic Center of the Milky Way and womb for the birth of all stellar formation in our solar system.

Sagittarius is duel in form and meaning and it is well worth remembering that the lower half of Sagittarius is attracted to the lusty sensuality of life lived moment to moment often without regard for consequence of thought and deed, while the upper half of Sagittarius garners the uncanny ability to see behind the superficial appearances of material reality and intuitively synthesize the particular with the universal.  Sagittarius challenges us to journey into the unknown leaving behind the beliefs  and truths of our family and society in order to discover an essential truth about ourself. The Buddha taught his disciples not to blindly follow his truth but to live life in such a way that they discovered their own truth. The archetypes of Sagittarius, the gypsy, the philosopher, the scholar, the pilgrim* propel us into unknown territory in search of an inner faith, trust, and belief in Life that reflects our essential Self.

This month we have the opportunity to journey beyond the superficial facade we present  as truth and actualize a deeper self truth that reflects our individual place in the cosmos. On November 22, when the Earth entered Sagittarius, the Moon was exactly sextile in Aquarius awakening a creative possibility for us to  provide nourishment to the whole of humanity without distancing or depersonalizing the needs of the individual. Remember, Sagittarius is excellent at synthesizing the particular, in this case our unique experience of life, with the universal experience of being human.  Sagittarius is broadening our world view this month by shifting our perspective from isolated separation to inclusive participation with one another. It is possible that during the coming month we will experience an event in our life that will show us that we are not alone in the world, on the contrary, we may realize that every human action reverberates throughout the Universe.

Old patterns of thought and emotion are eroding as transiting Neptune in Aquarius dissolves racial, class, religious, and gender barriers that continue to undermine the holistic healing of humanity.  Each of us wears a protective shield of one sort or another  preventing us from understanding that our differences are in fact our shared experiences in life. Jupiter, the ruler of Sagittarius, is in Aquarius and approaching a third and final conjunction with Neptune on December 20.  On that same date, the Moon is once again in Aquarius conjoining  Chiron, Jupiter, and Neptune, and translating the light of the cosmos illuminates the potential for a deep healing to humanity if individuals, like you and me, move beyond the comfort zone of what is familiar in our life and dare to imagine something we have never imagined before.
