Playing the Fool

It is All Fool’s Day punctuated with hoaxes and practical jokes designed to prick at our gullibility and embarrass that aspect of ourselves which has hardened into self satisfaction leading to complacent arrogance. The Tarot teaches that the Fool within each of us is our search for experience, our mystical wit abandoning reason, our childlike exuberance opening our heart to the inner rhythms of our world; while the number 0 is the perfect signifier for our journey reminding us that we can become anything when we reach our destination.* Perhaps this is another way of reminding ourselves that the all elusive goal in life mesmerizing our consciousness has more to do with the quality of our experience on our journey toward achieving this goal than the goal itself. It certainly seems worthwhile to ponder our life journey as the planet Pluto prepares to sojourn back into the sign of Sagittarius before continuing onward in the sign of Capricorn and focusing our attention toward transformative reconstruction.

Pluto has spent the last sixteen years in Sagittarius emphasizing a worldly period of exuberant expansion insisting upon unrestrained freedom often leading to fanaticism and tyrannical governing. If we shift our perspective and turn our gazing within we may see a similar internal landscape of profound personal expansion insisting on unbridled freedoms walking arm in arm with autocratic self- governing controls and regulations. I marvel to think of the breadth of communication opportunities set at our fingertips the last decade joining a desperate world which unfortunately continues erupting into violent chaos and devastating isolation.

In February and March we were given a short preview, a cosmic trailer if you will, presenting excerpts of what to expect during Pluto’s thirteen year journey through Capricorn with it’s emphasis on creating social change to existing structures accommodating the needs of the few and privileged at the expense of a larger community. Tomorrow, and lasting until the end of the year, we are given a concentrated review of the influences of Pluto in Sagittarius allowing us to reconsider some of our more foolhardy explorations in life which may have lead us astray. Once Pluto reenters Capricorn we can expect a sobering period of reconstruction shifting our priorities from expansion to stabilization.
