The Love We Give

click on the image to read about the art

Venus moving into Virgo directs our attention to using our discerning eye in relationship with others. Gone are the lazy, crazy, fun filled Leo days of spontaneous romancing and love-making. A Virgo Venus brings us a time of reckoning when we need to digest the love we have given and received since the last time Venus entered Virgo, eighteen months past, and with a practical reasoning discern what has improved and what needs improving . When under the influence of Virgo dissatisfaction with what “is” can drive us to distraction as we strive for perfection knowing deep within our heart that life is eternally imperfect, or so it seems. From the point of view of a learned sage life is perfect just as it is and what makes it imperfect is our human dissatisfaction. Many years ago I was sitting with friends, all of us complaining about what we were being given, our dissatisfaction hovering in the air like a heavy blanket, and I understood in a flash of insight that the purpose in life really is “to be” and all our striving to improve ourselves and others generates tension and aggression. For thousands of years, in every culture known to humankind, sages have taught us humans that what we are seeking outside ourselves is already within ourselves. When Venus is in Virgo the perfection we are seeking in love and partnership has something to do with self acceptance. Read the rest of this entry »

Discerning the Parts

click on the image to read about the art

On the 31st of August, the day before the Solar Eclipse, Venus in Leo opposed Neptune in Aquarius and offered us a timely warning against dissipating the effective using of our individuality especially for improving the quality of our life. We are warned not to idealize some situation in our life, nor, feel overwhelmed and confused about what we can actually contribute. Mars, the God of War, is in Virgo approaching an opposition with Uranus in Pisces suggesting that we can willfully assert our knowledge in ways that will disrupt our illusions of separateness. The Pisces aspect in our self is seeking union with something greater than our self which often confers an uncanny understanding of mass consciousness that can be overwhelming to our independent thoughts and feelings. This is a time well used to discern what we are being told by others and consider contributing to the whole by analyzing the significance of each part. Is there some issue in your life that you are ignoring because it is overwhelming you, and which, if you dissected into pieces might be easier to assimilate and mentally digest?

Go Beyond the Familiar

Eclipses are major events in astrology, and no wonder, they are the intimate aligning, the celestial “ménage á trois”, of the three most significant players of the zodiac; the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. Our ancestors considered eclipses to be “harbingers of calamity” for the simple reason that human consciousness experiences change with fear and foreboding. But this is not the only reason. Our ancestors worshiped the Sun and the Moon as God and Goddess who created, nourished, and sustained life on Earth, and witnessing the bright face of either deity suddenly blacken or turn blood red must have seemed tantamount to witnessing the wrath of the Universe. Today, most western cultures pride themselves on a mechanistic ordering of life, the Sun and Moon benign within the physical comprehending of phenomenology, and yet, observing an eclipse can still fill the human heart with awe and wonder at the numinous power of the same Universe of our ancestors of which we are a living part. Jumpin Jack Flash

click on the image to read about the art

Today is Mick Jagger’s birthday and Mercury’s ingress into Leo, and I can’t think of a more fitting expression of Mercury in Leo than the puer aeternus of rock and roll wailing, Jumpin Jack Flash it’s a gas gas gas, Happy Birthday Mick! Mercury in Leo is that aspect of our self refusing to grow old and mentally stale preferring the mischievous curiosity of our youth rejuvenating our enthusiasm for life than the dogmatic rules and regulations of our cynical and tainted maturing. Mercury is that aspect of our self that effortlessly travels between the numinous world of our divine immortality and the sobering world of our flawed mortality indiscriminately delivering messages that inspire others that bring despair. Restriction, limitation, even self-discipline, are anathema to Mercury, and when in Leo, Mercury has little patience for the tenacity of the proverbial tortoise, much preferring the self assurance, even arrogance, of the hare. When under the influence of Leo our child like wonder and enthusiasm for life overflows and our heart opens up with generosity for all. It is pretty difficult not to be swept away by the warmth and laughter of a Leo and when Mercury gets involved we can expect communication to be punctuated with dramatic hand gesturing and abundant exclamation pointing. First Found Within

click on the image to read about the art

The waning Taurus Moon is telling us to evaluate the importance we place on the things we own in life and use as reflections for what we value in our self and measure as the breadth of our self-worth. This is a good week to ask ourselves if we spend more time worried about our material comfort than our spiritual evolving. The Moon is that aspect of our self seeking emotional security and well being feeling that we belong to the continuum of life. When we feel connected with our lunar self we intuitively understand that we belong to and are a part of the wisdom of nature; the divine Mother, our eternal “Feminine”, creator and destroyer of life. A dear friend recently returned from the Amazon in Brazil having experienced first hand the awesome magnificence of our divine Mother, “Madre Tierra”, tenaciously, and with a profound indifference to the momentary comforts of the human species, providing every breath of our existence. When under the influence of Taurus each cell of our body is made alert to the sensual experiencing of being alive. When we look into the loving eyes of creation spewing forth new life while devouring our decay we witness the chthonic source of our own creativity ripening into self-expression. Luminous Light

click on the image to read about the art

Today, the Sun, the luminous light of our unique individuality, enters the sign of ruler ship bestowing strength and vitality to our spirit of creativity. If we view this month through the lens of the pure manifestation of the energy of a Leo Sun, then this is the month to express ourselves doing those things which bring pleasure and contentment into our lives. It is not by chance that July and August, when the Sun is in Leo, are the traditional months of the year when people indulge their impulse for adventurous play with family, friends, or on their own, venturing into the wild of seaside resorts, mountain retreats, or the exotic habits of unknown cultures. It is certain, regardless of what we do this month we will become fully aware of the spark of life which is eternally ignited at the core of individuality. Read the rest of this entry »

Our Numinous Mother Within

click on the image to read about the art

What an intense weekend following the Capricorn full Moon my spirits and others spiraling downward into an emotional abyss as we struggled to adjust our early expectations of emotional nourishment. Those of us who felt deprived of maternal nourishment when we were young may have spent this time wrestling with our internal demons taunting us with the dark face of our unworthiness and self blame for not being given the emotional care we needed, and still need, to feel safe and secure in the world. The Capricorn full Moon reflects back to us on Earth the timelessness of our primal attachment to the original source of our nourishment and the numinous power of the all for-giving, Mother Goddess who lives within our collective unconscious. Unconscious Knowing

click on the image to read about the art

The voluptuous face of the Moon shines brightly impregnated with the radiant light of the Sun, and on Earth we see reflected back to us the fullness of our conscious awareness. This celestial event happens each month with the lunar phase of the Full Moon and each month we have the opportunity to face with conscious awareness some aspect of our unconscious knowing. I say “our unconscious knowing” because our unconscious has an intelligence which expresses itself indirectly in the same way that the radiance of the Sun’s harsh light is filtered through the softened glow of the Moon. On July 18 the Moon reaches fullness in Capricorn, and while a Capricorn Moon is traditionally not an easily expressed Moon because our emotions often feel as if they are being held hostage and shackled in a cold dank dungeon, the grace of a Capricorn full Moon is that the Sun is in Cancer, the sign under ruler ship of the Moon, offering us conscious illumination of a long ago hidden fear. Swept Away

Our Lady of Love, Venus, has entered the fiery spirit of Leo and we can expect our relationships to be fueled with provocative passions as our capacity for relating, to ourselves and others, reaches new heights of creative self- expression. This month you may find yourself or your loved one inflamed with romantic longing to be swept away from the droll drums of mundane living, whisked off to a secluded playground for your mutual pleasuring, and mutual indulging in lavish displays of attention and applause. The fire sign Leo always loves bestowing warmth and generosity to the qualities of any planet touring that sign and this month Leo is adorning Venus with scintillating sizzle, arousing charms, and voluptuous appetites guaranteed to rush our blood to the surface. The coming month is definitely the time to let all your creative juices flow! Read the rest of this entry »

The Kind Communicator

click on the image to read about the art

Today, Mercury leaves a two month sojourn through Gemini, a time of accelerated mental activity when we enthusiastically communicated a cornucopia of ideas to others, to enter Cancer, a time of emotional sensitivity when we cautiously, tentatively communicate our feelings to others for fear of them being misunderstood or worst rejected. It is important not to emotionally retreat behind a mental fortress protecting ourselves from the thoughts and feelings of others even if their ideas seem harsh or unkind. When we are under the influence of Cancer we are more intuitive than usual and more in touch with our instinctual nature. Issues of security, safety, belonging are of tantamount concern and we are prone to personalizing every thing we experience in life. When Mercury enters Cancer we may spend most of our time defending what we think and feel, if only to ourselves, when we are better served defending the thoughts and feelings of others and keeping the flow of communication open. It is important to remember that Mercury in Cancer is seeking communion not isolation. Read the rest of this entry »
